My Massages – What You Can Expect

Receiving a massage does more than just relax the body. There are specific physiological and psychological changes that occur, even more so when massage is utilized as a preventive, frequent therapy and not simply a mere luxury. But massage does not “cure” anybody; massage helps to bring positive change to the body so that it can heal and/or better cope with the stress caused by a condition. It is a holistic and preventative treatment that can maintain tissue health by increasing its circulation, supplying nutrition, increasing drainage – thereby removing wastes – and decreasing pain. Therapeutic massage can maintain general health by decreasing stress and stress related hormones thus maintaining the function of our immune system and decreasing the chance of stress-imposed diseases and conditions. The most popular benefit of massage is that it is both relaxing and invigorating. It is an excellent way to help rid the body of tension and to achieve a sense of overall well-being.

I was trained in a range of massage techniques that work directly with the body; and then there are a couple of techniques I like to call Mind Massages that do not fall under the traditional term Massage but which can be just as therapeutic, relaxing and healing. This page lists most of the techniques I had formal training in. With touch, rhythm, sound, guided relaxation and breath and focused attention I aim to gently communicate with the deeper body and subconscious mind to take my recipient on a naturally occurring trance-like journey. With the massages I do, I may incorporate bits and pieces of all these techniques; each massage ending up as a unique experience for me and for you as a client.

Body Massages

Swedish Massage

The most common type of massage is Swedish massage therapy. By relieving muscle tension, Swedish massages can be both relaxing and energizing. A session lasts for 45 to 60 minutes and addresses most major muscle groups of the body. With Swedish sessions, I can target specific areas of pain like a sprained ankle or stiff shoulder, or help manage the chronic pain that comes with conditions like arthritis. By using strokes that improve circulation and increase body-wide relaxation, the massage can help make many painful conditions more bearable. The long strokes towards the heart drain metabolic waste from the limbs of the body and other strokes like cross-fibre friction work out the kinks that can accompany injured muscles. These strokes help get rid of scar tissue and return the muscles to their normal, relaxed, healthy state. Top

Kahuna Massage

The Rolls Royce of Massage! 🙂 The age-old healing art of Hawaiian Kahuna massage is a unique, flowing, energetically vibrant yet deeply relaxing whole-body massage. I use my hands and forearms in long fluid strokes of varying intensity and rhythm up and down and all around the body. The session also incorporates stretches, under-body work, deep tissue techniques and rhythmic music. The energising effects of these stimulating movements and creative techniques are combined with clear healing intent and invocations for positive transformation on all levels. The radiant quality of Kahuna touch communicates love, awareness, balance and compassion. It is the supportive touch that we long for, inspiring clarity and confidence that liberates us from the stresses of life and confirms the body-minds expectation of what unconditional loving touch really is. Some of the benefits are that it boosts the immune, circulatory and digestive systems and also improves muscle tone. Being totally nurtured and supported also allows for the surrender of chronically held physical and emotional tension – stress and negative emotions give way to joy, trust and open-heartedness and you reach an inner state of self-realisation similar to that attained in deep meditation. Every treatment is different. Your experience will depend entirely on your intention for the treatment. You may experience anything from absolute joy, right through to deep emotional breakthroughs, soothing touch, healing energy and positive, empowering physical and emotional shifts. You may simply feel totally nurtured and loved; you may have an awareness come to mind about your life; you may have a lovely vision of being in a beautiful place in nature, or you may release long-held emotions that have been locked into muscles. Anyone of any age or background can experience a Kahuna massage. For the best effect and comfort with the long dance-like strokes, it is suggested to remove all clothing. In this regard, I want to stress that I do NOT massage the erogenous zones and there will always be a modesty cloth or towel covering the groin area. As I do massage the stomach and chest (NOT breasts) it is suggested to uncover the upper part of the body but this is not a must. You may undress to the level that you feel comfortable. I always attune the massage as needed and treat every client with unconditional openness and understanding. Come to Little Heaven Massages to experience the true transformation for yourself! Top

Kahuna Massage comes from Hawaii

Aromatherapy

The combination of essential oils with intuitive and Swedish massage techniques led to the contemporary practice of Aromatherapy as a healing art. Aromatherapy is a holistic, complementary health-care discipline. My main treatment method is a full body massage, using essential oils diluted in a base of vegetable oil. Each oil has its own medicinal, cosmetic or other properties. Research has confirmed the value of the oils, and we now know that these fragrant oils have antiviral, antibacterial, and antifungal as well as antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, antineuralgic, antispasmodic, antitoxic, antidepressant, sedative, analgesic, hypo- and hypertensol, digestive, expectorating, circulatory stimulating and many more qualities. Hot Stone Massage

Hot Stone massage is rated as a relaxation technique. It is not performed as deep as a Swedish massage but with a lot of similar movements. I use basalt stones that are heated in water directly onto the body. The thermal qualities of the hot stones on the body of my client induce a nurturing feeling of deep relaxation.Top

Abhyanga Ayurveda Massage

The term Ayurveda comes from the Sanskrit word meaning ‘science of life’. It is a complex ancient system of philosophy and medicine in which many massage techniques have their roots. Ayurveda considers balance and moderation to be essential for health, with the body and mind being closely linked. According to Ayurvedic thought, the universe is made up of five elements – ether, air, earth, fire and water – and human beings are made up of a combination of these elements. In addition, there are believed to be three doshas, or energies, that exist in all matter. These are called vata, pitta and kapha. But you don’t have to believe any of this to enjoy the warm oil and the long gliding and energy balancing strokes that form part of the Abhyanga massage. Top

Reflexology

Reflexology operates on the belief that points throughout the body correspond to different internal organs, glands and natural functions in the body. Applying pressure to Reflexology points promotes the proper flow of energy and restores balance to the body’s systems. During a Reflexology session, I use hand, thumb, and finger techniques to stimulate these reflex areas on my client’s feet. The session also includes a soothing foot massage. Top

Indian Head & Shoulder Massage

An Indian Head massage, as the name might imply, focuses not only on the head but also on the upper body, neck, shoulders, arms, upper back, face and ears. It helps to relax the muscles, improves circulation, promotes healthy hair growth and lymph flow. It can help to relieve tension headaches, sinus problems and even eye strain. For this technique, my clients sit in an upright position and according to preference, may stay fully clothed or may expose the back and shoulders. Top

Lymph Drainage Massage

Lymphatic drainage is a therapeutic massage treatment that uses light pressure and long, gentle, rhythmic or pumping strokes to increase the flow of lymph and reduce toxins in your body. I combine this treatment with a full body massage. Top

Rungu Stick Massage

In my Rungu Stick Massage I use a wooden ‘knopkierie’-like stick to give attention to certain painful, stiff “trouble spots” of your body. The slow, deliberate strokes focus pressure on layers of muscles, tendons, or other tissues deep under your skin. Rungu Stick Massage can be quite therapeutic — relieving chronic patterns of tension and helping with muscle injuries, aches and pains. Top

Tantra Massage

Tantra massage (for Ladies only!) can also be called sensual massage. But what is sensuality? In the true sense of the word, sensuality means sensorial sensitivity. With Tantra massage I seek to help you rediscover your sensorial sensitivity, to rediscover the capacity to enjoy the pleasure of the senses. It is important not to mistake sexual excitation for sensuality. Sensual massage opens the gates of the sensorial universe. This is why it needs to be considered and experienced from the correct point of view.

During a Tantra massage, you are given time to explore your body without goals. Tantric massage adds energy healing to the ecstasy of receiving a nurturing and awakening sensual massage. It creates an environment in which you can release stress and feel more alive in your body while staying fully present to your sexual energy. Tantra is the art of being sensually in your body not in your head. In this very caring ceremony, you will be completely nurtured and pampered, giving you a seamlessly blend bespoke stress-relief with intense full-body bliss for your ultimate stress-melting satisfaction. Your entire body will be massaged, including all sensual and erogenous zones. The sexual energy may rise and fall during the massage. Allowing these peaks and valleys to happen without trying to control them is beautiful and very tantric. A Tantra massage is an emotional and spiritual journey of touch. It is an opportunity to simply receive. For those who are open to enjoying and receiving a gentle, loving and caring treatment the benefits can be enormous. (Please Note – Available for ladies only. Although nudity is involved on the client’s side, this is a reputable ritual and not to be confused with a ‘Happy Ending’ massage! Tantra is about the journey, not just the end.)

If you ask yourself: “Is this for me?” then the answer is: Yes, if you …
  • – want to experience your own body differently
  • – think that all men are just perverted æ®*%^
  • – are a survivor of sexual abuse and want to reconnect with your body in a safe environment
  • – feel shame about your body
  • – want to honour your sexuality
  • – want to receive without having to give back
  • – want to spoil yourself with a wonderful journey
  • … and the list goes on …

Singing Bowl Sound Therapy

Tibetan Bowl Sound Therapy is profoundly relaxing. During the session, Tibetan Sound Bowls will be placed on or held above your body. When played, they send waves of vibration throughout your body harmonizing every cell. The beautiful sounds produced by the Tibetan Bowls also have a hypnotic effect on the brain, slowing brain waves and inducing a deep meditative state. Because it so deeply touches and transforms us on the emotional and spiritual planes, sound can also redress imbalances and can play a positive role in the treatment of virtually any medical disorder.Top

Body Frequency Alignment

Body Frequency Alignment is a combination of healing and relaxation techniques and involves you ‘becoming a drum’ as I work with gentle percussive movements on the body. These movements are done to a backing track that you listened to on headphones. This track encourages the brain to go into a more relaxed theta brain wave state. Because the body is experiencing the rhythms it hears and feels through my tapping at exactly the same tempo as the backing track, synchronisation of body and mind is brought about. Once you are in this relaxed mental state, your body is more receptive to the gentle acupressure which also forms part of the session.Top

Relaxation

Relaxation techniques are a great way to help with stress management. Relaxation isn’t just about peace of mind or enjoying a hobby. Relaxation is a process that decreases the effects of stress on your mind and body. I can help you to better cope with everyday stress and with stress related to various health problems, such as pain.

With Relaxation sessions you can reduce stress symptoms because you will be:
  • – Slowing your heart rate
  • – Lowering blood pressure
  • – Slowing your breathing rate
  • – Reducing activity of stress hormones
  • – Increasing blood flow to major muscles
  • – Reducing muscle tension and chronic pain
  • – Improving concentration and mood
  • – Lowering fatigue
  • – Reducing anger and frustration
  • – Boosting confidence to handle problems

Progressive Muscle Relaxation by Jacobson

Relaxation can help to relieve the symptoms of stress. Although the cause of the anxiety will not disappear, you will probably feel more able to deal with it once you have released the tension in your body and cleared your thoughts. With Jacobson’s progressive relaxation technique, which involves contracting and relaxing the muscles, I guide you to make you feel calmer and to help you to let go of any tension left in your muscles. Energetic Healing & Holistic Touch Therapy

My mission is to incorporate mind, body, and soul into a harmonious flow and to help facilitate the healing process. Working with gentle intuitive touch and Energetic Healing – a term used for techniques that work on the energy flow in our physical and subtle bodies to regain balance and facilitate our body’s innate healing mechanisms – I aim to balance the chakras and let your life energy flow freely through your body.Top

Non-judgmental Listening

I am not a coach or psychologist but sometimes you might just plain need someone to listen to you. I promise an open ear and an honest response. No theme or question is taboo or too embarrassing. If it bugs you it needs to come out. Don’t let an issue or question become toxic. I might not have all the answers, but voicing the issue is already cleansing. In my studio, you will have a safe environment to let it all out.Top
